Frederick Roland Miner was born in New London, Connecticut on October 28, 1876. He studied at the Art Students League in New York City under John Carlson. He arrived in Los Angeles in 1897 and, after establishing a studio-home in Pasadena, further studied with William Wendt. A peripatetic artist, he made many trips back to the East Coast to paint and study. In 1923 he authored and, with his own photographs and paintings, illustrated the book Outdoor California. Miner died in Los Angeles on January 10, 1935. Member: Society of Independent Artists; Laguna Beach Art Ass'n; California Art Club. Exhibited: Los Angeles Architecture Club, 1912; Royar Gallery (Los Angeles), 1912 (New England scenes); Panama-California Expo (San Diego), 1915 (bronze medal); San Francisco Art Ass'n, 1917-19. Works held: Union League Club, Los Angeles (The Old Oak); Glendale Sanitorium (Garapatos CaƱon).
